WHERE ARE WE AFTER THE MICHIGAN PRIMARY AND JUST BEFORE SOUTH CAROLINA THIS WEEKEND? MITT ROMNEY WON IN MICHIGAN, PARTLY BECAUSE HE PROMISED A $20 BILLION AID PACKAGE FOR THE AUTO INDUSTRY. IS THAT WHAT A REPUBLICAN SHOULD DO – BAILOUT A PRIVATE INDUSTRY RATHER THAN ENDORSE CAPITALISM, FREE ENTERPRISE AND ENCOURAGE DETROIT TO BUILD THE KINDS OF CARS PEOPLE WANT?
YES, THE GOVERNMENT LOANED CHRYSLER MONEY, BUT THEY PAID IT BACK. BIG DIFFERENCE.
MIKE HUCKABEE ALSO SOUNDS LIKE A BIG GOVERNMENT REPUBLICAN. THE ONLY ONE BEHAVING LIKE A REAL REPUBLICAN IS RON PAUL, WHO ACTUALLY WANTS TO CUT SPENDING AND GET GOVERNMENT OUT OF OUR LIVES. HE WON’T WIN THE NOMINATION BECAUSE TOO MANY REPUBLICANS ARE INTO HANDOUTS AND REDISTRIBUTION, JUST LIKE DEMOCRATS.
IT’S A SAD POLITICAL SEASON IF YOU ARE A CONSERVATIVE. ALL OF THE CANDIDATES ARE DEFECTIVE, SOME SERIOUSLY SO, AND THE LIBERAL DEMOCRATS HAVE THE MOST DEFECTS, BUT RIGHT NOW – WITH THE MEDIA’S HELP – THEY APPEAR POISED TO WIN IN NOVEMBER. MAYBE A MIRACLE WILL HAPPEN AND REPUBLICANS WILL START BEHAVING LIKE REPUBLICANS AGAIN. IN KANSAS CITY, I’M CAL THOMAS.

Posted by Dirk Wilcox, January 21, 2008 11:37:58It's amazing how the Republicans have allowed the language of the debate to be controlled by the left. "How can the federal government save us from out of control healthcare costs" without ever considering the government's role in creating the crisis through over-regulation and subsidies in the form of Medicare and Medicaid. Yet the Republicans follow right along like lambs to the slaughter. There is no debate on the morality or the efficacy of the federal income tax only small disagreements over what the rate should be and who to credit a few hundred dollars when the playbook calls for a stimulus. Ron Paul is the only candidate from either party brave enough to debate the assumptions implicit in the questions asked of them. I hope people begin to pay attention.

Posted by Gloria JB, January 20, 2008 10:55:34Thank you, Mr. Thomas, for giving voice to what so many of us feel. Although the field for president is rich in quantity, it's pitifully poor in quality. Very few in the Fourth Estate have been willing to actually report on Dr. Paul and his message. Interestingly, there's been little coverage, if any, of the NAU by the Fourth Estate. Coincidence?

Posted by tubby, January 19, 2008 2:01:20First, the republican establishment tried to ignore Ron Paul. Now they resort to discrediting him as a loon simply because of his foreign policy; it's become increasingly difficult for me to believe we're not a party of war mongers. Rudy a conservative? Mitt a conservative? Huck a conservative? At a critical time in our history we need a leader with sound conservative principles. Ron Paul is the real conservative in the field. Ron Paul is the clear choice for principled, conservative leadership. Seasons always change Cal!
