CAL THOMAS COMMENTARY OCTOBER 15, 2008

SOME AMERICAN CHRISTIANS THINK OF PERSECUTION AS NAME CALLING, OR A CRITICAL NEWSPAPER EDITORIAL. BUT CHRISTIANS IN OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF PERSECUTION. THEY LIVE IT EVERY DAY.

IN INDIA, THE PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIANS BY HINDUS IS SPREADING. THE NEW YORK TIMES REPORTED MONDAY “THE FAMILY OF SOLOMON DIGAL WAS SUMMONED BY NEIGHBORS TO WHAT SERVES AS A PUBLIC SQUARE IN FRONT OF THE VILLAGE TEA SHOP IN THE TOWN OF BOREPANGA. THEY WERE ORDERED TO GET ON THER KNEES AND BOW BEFORE THE PORTRAIT OF A HINDU PREACHER. THEY WERE TOLD TO TURN OVER THEIR BIBLES, HYMNALS AND THE TWO BRIGHTLY COLORED CALENDAR IMAGES OF CHRIST THANT HUNG ON THEIR WALL. THEN, MR. DIGAL, 45, A CHRISTIAN SINCE CHILDHOOD, WAS FORCED TO WATCH HIS HINDU NEIGHBORS SET FIRE TO THE ITEMS.”

THE STORY IS UNCLEAR AS TO WHETHER THEY RENOUNCED JESUS, BUT THE PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIANS THROUGHOUT ESPECIALLY POOR PARTS OF INDIA IS INCREASING AND INTENSIFYING. WE HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF PRAYING FOR OUR PERSECUTED BROTHERS AND SISTERS AND REALIZING, WITH PAUL, THAT SOME ARE COUNTED WORTHY TO SUFFER FOR THE NAME. IN BOSTON, I’M CAL THOMAS.
